H. E. Mr. Valdis Zatlers,President of Latvia paid a successful visit to China

      From October 18 to 22, 2010, H. E. Mr. Valdis Zatlers, President of the Republic of Latvia led the Latvian delegation to attend the National Day activities of the Latvian Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, and visited Shen Yang and Beijing respectively.

During the stay of the delegation in China, H. E. Mr. Xi Jinping, Vice President of China and H. E. Mr. Hui Liangyu, Vice Premier of China met with H. E. Valdis Zatlers respectively. The leaders of both countries attended the signing ceremony of the bilateral agreements of cooperation in the fields of finance, education and culture.

In Shen Yang, H. E. Mr. Wang Min, Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the CPC and Chairman of the People's Congress of Liao Ning Province, H. E. Mr. Chen Zhenggao, Governor of Liao Ning Province, H. E. Mr. Zeng Wei, Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the CPC of Shen Yang, and H. E. Mr. Chen Haibo, Mayor of Shen Yang met with President Valdis Zatlers respectively. President Zatlers also paid visits to Liao Ning University and North East University. In Shanghai, H. E. Mr. Valdis Zatlers attended the National Day ceremony of the Latvian Pavilion and made a speech on the occasion. H. E. Mr. Shen Jun, One of the Municipal Leaders of Shanghai City in Charge of the Expo affairs accompanied President Zatlers through the activities. They witnessed the official distributing ceremony of the first Chinese-Latvian Dictionary in China. President Valdis Zatlers also attended the relevant business forums in Shen Yang and Shanghai. More than 200 businessmen from Latvia and China participated in the forums and exchanged views in depth on how to further strengthening the existing bilateral economic and trade relations. The communications among the business circles of both countries have laid the foundation for future bilateral cooperation. At the Forum On the Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation Between Liao Ning Province and Latvia, Mr. Sun Zhaolin, Mayor of Hu Ludao City of China and Mr. Andris Rāviņš, Chairman of the City Council of Jelgava signed a Letter of Intent on establishing sister city relations between the two cities. President Valdis Zatlers also visited some Chinese enterprises including Hua Wei Technologies.

H. E. Mr. Artis Kampars, Minister for Economics, H. E. Mrs. Tatjana Koke, Minister for Education and Science, H. E. Mr. Ints Dalderis, Minister for Culture and some other high ranking Officials of Republic of Latvia accompanied President Valdis Zatlers through the visit.

As reported by the media in China, the vertical wind tunnel at the Latvian pavilion, one of the landmark structures in the Shanghai World Expo, will be moved and settled down in He Nan Province of China. It will become a tourist attraction in the Province.
