On December 17, 2010, Mr. Hu Yeshun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China gave an interview to the journalist of Vesti Segodnya, one of the largest Russian newspapers in Latvia.

Ambassador Hu made comments on one of the hot topics in the media circles regarding that China has become the world second largest economy. He said China is still a developing country in nature and facing many problems and chanllenges such as follows: China has a huge population, the per-capita income in China is very low, the population based on agriculture is still very big, the economic and social development is not balanced, and the economic structure is unreasonable etc. Therefore, China will still be a developing country for a long period of time in the foreseeable future. He briefed the journalist on the outstanding achievements made by China in the field of human rights. Regarding the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Liu Xiaobo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Ambassador Hu revealed the truth and intention of Liu Xiaobo. He pointed that Mr. Liu Xiaobo has made no contributions toward the world peace, and done anything worthy to mention in the economic development and social progress of China neither, but a criminal who acted against the will of the Chinese people, lauded the rule of colonization and incited to overthrow the legitimate government of China. The awarding of this year's Nobel Peace Prize to a convicted criminal serving prison sentence for instigating subversion of state power by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, is gross insult and infringement on China's laws and is of sheer double standards. Ambassador Hu made positive comments on the development potentials of the bilateral relations between China and Latvia and said he would make his best to promote the steady development of the bilateral ties within his tenure. Ambassador Hu also answered the questions raised by the journalist regarding the Sino-American relations, the RMB exchange rate etc.
