Updated Instructions On How To Apply For A Chinese Visa

Applications by post are not accepted. Applicants should submit their applications in person or entrust a third party to submit their applications on their behalf to the Consular Office of Chinese Embassy in Latvia.

Appointments are not required. Interviews may be required by the visa officer if necessary. Visa may be refused without detailed explanation.

Checklist for visa application:

A. All applicants(except the applicants for Group Visa) are required to submit the following documents:

(1)  Valid passport with at least 2 blank pages available for visa. Pages for endorsements or amendments can not be used as a visa page

(2) One completed Chinese Visa Application Form (please click to download: http://lv.chineseembassy.org/eng/lsyw/P020070417813509531702.pdf) signed by the applicant. Children's application form can be signed by their parents or guardians. The visa application may be refused or delayed due to misinformation or failed declaration of any item or illegible writing on the application form

(3) One recent 2-inch, bareheaded and full-faced passport photo affixed to the visa application form. Life photos, copied photos and digital photos printed on ordinary paper are not acceptable

Note: For citizens of the third country, the residence permit in Latvia or work permit in Latvia is required

B. Additional documents:

TYPES OF VISA

At present, the Chinese Embassy in Latvia mainly issues the following visas, which are marked with Chinese phonetic letters (L, F, X, Z, G, J-1, J-2) respectively.

1. L visa (for tourism or visiting relative, or other private purposes)

I--If for tourism:

(1)Documents mentioned in part A

(2)A copy of Chinese hotel booking

(3)A copy of outward and return flight ticket booking

II--If for visiting relative in China

(1)Documents mentioned in part A

(2)Proof of kinship ( e.g. an invitation letter from the relative in China ), but the applicants who are below 14 years old or born in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) as shown in the passport are not required to submit this proof)

(3)A copy of outward and return flight ticket booking

2. F visa (lecture or business tour, for scientific-technological and cultural exchanges, for short-term refresher course or for job-training for a period of no more than six months)

(1)Documents mentioned in part A

(2)Visa Notification Form issued by the relevant department of Chinese government or the government-authorized company        

(3)A copy of Chinese hotel booking

(4)A copy of outward and return flight ticket booking

3. X visa (for study, advanced studies or job-training for a period of six months or more)

 (1)Documents mentioned in part A 

 (2)Original JW-201 or JW-202 form (Application Form for Overseas Students to China) issued by the Ministry of Education of China

(3)A letter of admission from a Chinese University/College

(4) The original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners

4. Z visa (for long-term working)

(1)Documents mentioned in part A

(2)An employment permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security or the State Administration of Foreign Experts of China

(3)An invitation letter from a relevant Department of Chinese Government or a government-authorized company

(4) The original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners

5. J-1 or J-2 visa (for journalism)

(1)Documents mentioned in part A

(2)Other related documents specified in Procedures for Foreign Reporters to Apply for Short-term News Coverage in or Resident Accreditation to China

6. G visa (for transit through China)

(1)Documents mentioned in part A

(2)A copy of Chinese hotel booking

(3)A copy of outward and return flight ticket booking

(4)A valid visa for the country of destination

7.Group Tourist Visa (for tourist group of five people or above planning to enter and leave China at the same time)

(1) An invitation letter from a government tourist bureau or a government-authorized Chinese travel agency

(2) A typed name-list of the whole group (Name, Date of birth, Sex ,Profession, Nationality, Passport No.)

8. Group Business Visa(for group of 9 people or above planning to go to China for sports competition, exhibition, celebration ceremony or cultural exchanges)

(1) An invitation letter from a government-authorized Chinese agency

(2) One typed name list of the whole group (Name, Date of birth, Sex, Profession, Nationality, Passport No.)

Please note that to apply for group visa, passports and copies of passports of all the group members are required. But they don't need to fill out the Visa Application Form.

NOTE 1: For applicants from some specific countries, additional documents other than those mentioned above may be required.

NOTE 2: Applicants should check the issued visa upon collection and if necessary raise any queries at the same time. If there is no immediate query relating to the issued visa, the applicant is held responsible under any circumstances thereafter.

INFORMATION ON TRAVEL TO HONG KONG and Macao

1. According to the arrangements by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (SAR) of China, the Macao Special Administration Region of China and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on mutual exemption of visa, Latvian Citizens do not need any entry visa to travel to Hong Kong and Macao for a maximum stay of 90 days. This arrangement only applies to those who travel to Hong Kong and Macao for sightseeing, visiting relatives or business tour.

2. The application for HK entry visa by Latvian Aliens and persons from the third country will be processed in compliance with relevant regulations.
