On January 24, 2007, Mr. Zhang Limin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Latvia, together with Ms. Helena Demakova, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, signed the Program of Cultural Exchange Between the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia for the Years 2006 ~2010 at the Ministry of Culture of Latvia in Riga. This is already the forth such program between the two Ministries of Culture after the signing of the Agreement on Cultural and Educational Cooperation between the two governments in September 1996.

Ms. Helena Demakova said that the Latvian people are expecting to see more of Chinese culture in Latvia. Ambassador Zhang assured the Minister that he himself and the Chinese Embassy in Latvia would spare no effort, in cooperation with Latvian colleagues, to implement the program, so as to make the cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Latvia more active and fruitful.
