Teachers and Students of Beijing Dance Academy Attended the Ballet and Classic Dance Festival in Latvia

 In the evening on April 19, 2011, at the invitation of the Organizing Committee of the 16th Latvia International Ballet and Classic Dance Festival, four teachers and students including Mr. Wu Weifeng from Beijing Dance Academy together with the dance artists representing Korea, Poland, Georgia, Ukraine, Turkey and Latvia, gave superb performances of ballet and classic dances to the Latvian audience. H. E. Valdis Zatlers, President of Latvia and H. E. Solvita Aboltina, Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia watched the performances.

 

The young dancers from China performed the Chinese classic dances. The dancer of the solo dance named the the sound of the Wind thoroughly expressed his thoughts of longing for freedom, which floating with the wind, through the elegant and graceful manner in dancing. The performance fully demonstrated the dancer's good grounding in dancing. Emperor Qin Calling up Troops performed by four dancers from China, with the image of the Terracotta warriors of primitive simplicity, going well together with the unique shape and the ringing and powerful rhythm of Jiang Zhou drums, expressed the heroic spirit of the Chinese warriors who were fighting bravely in war and marching forward courageously in the ancient times. The performances were magnificent artistic treat for the audience, which drew prolonged applauses and cheers from the audience.

 
At the reception after the performances, the President and Speaker of the Republic of Latvia chatted and took a group photo respectively with the Chinese dancers. They gave a high opinion to the performances by the Chinese dancers, expressed that they enjoyed the performances embodying the heavy and magical charms of the traditional Chinese culture and art, and looked forward to more exchanges and cooperation between the Latvian and the Chinese artists. The Chinese dancers briefed the audience on the classic Chinese dances drawing on and bringing forth the new from the old elements of Beijing opera, Wu Shu and ballet, which is the cultural heritage peculiar to the Chinese nation. During the stay in Latvia, at the invitation by the Latvian side, the Chinese performers also held discussions with the teachers and students from the Latvian Dance Center.
