Chinese Embassy in Latvia Holds Reception Celebrating 74th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China

On September 27th, Chinese Embassy in Latvia held the reception celebrating 74th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China in Mazā Ģilde, Riga. Representatives from Latvian government, the Saeima, municipalities, and various fields including education, arts, business, and media, diplomatic corps in Latvia, and Chinese compatriots in Latvia attended.

Chinese Ambassador to Latvia H.E. Mr. Tang Songgen, in his remarks, said that the Chinese people have been on a great journey from standing up to getting more and more prosperous. Chinese path to modernization has drawn a new vision for development. President Xi Jinping has put forward the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, calling on the world to jointly build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity. 

H.E. Amb. Tang pointed out that Chinese economy has strong resilience, enormous potential and vast room for maneuver. Chinese economy, steadily developing, will continue to provide great opportunities to the world including Latvia.  

H.E. Amb. Tang pointed out that Latvia, in the joint communique of the establishment of China-Latvia diplomatic relations, solemnly promised to adopt One-China Principle, laying the important political foundation for the bilateral relations. Both sides shall promote steady development and practical cooperation in various fields on the basis of mutual respect and win-win cooperation. Chinese Embassy in Latvia is ready to work with friends across Latvia to promote practical cooperation in different sectors. 

H. E. Amb. Tang stated that China always regards Europe as a strategic partner and support Europe’s unity and prosperity. Dividends brought by this relationship to both sides and the world could be well seen. 

H.E. Amb. Tang also congratulated Latvia for their remarkable achievements in ice hockey and basketball this year.

At the outset of the reception, students from Riga 34th Middle School performed the chorus of national anthems of Latvia and China. Latvian Wushu Sports Association delivered splendid Wushu and lion dance performance. Two young artists from China and Latvia collaborated to play a duet of "Jasmine", a Chinese folk song, with traditional musical instruments both of China and Latvia. Guests expressed their congratulations on the National Day and best wishes to China-Latvia relations.
