On December 5, 2023, H.E. Amb. Tang Songgen met with Latvian Saeima Speaker Hon. Ms. Daiga Mieriņa. The two sides discussed on China-Latvia relations, exchanges between legislative bodies, bilateral practical cooperation, Ukraine and other topics with common interests.

H. E. Amb. Tang congratulated Hon. Ms. Mieriņa on her election as Saeima Speaker and said that the China-EU Summit will be held in Beijing soon, and China-EU relations have global influence and significance. China values China-EU relations and China-Latvia relationship, and is ready to work with the Latvian side to jointly promote practical cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, tourism and sub-national cooperation. H.E. Amb. Tang stressed that the one-China principle and respect to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity are universally recognized norms in international relations and the political foundation of China-Latvia relations.

Hon. Ms. Mieriņa expressed thanks to H.E. Amb. Tang’s congratulations and reaffirmed that Latvia sticks to the one-China policy. Hon. Ms. Mieriņa said that Latvia highly values the cooperation between the two countries in economy, and expects China to import more Latvian products. Both countries should also strengthen cultural exchanges so as to enhance mutual understanding.

Both sides agreed on further promoting exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies of China and Latvia.
