We noticed the 2023 Annual Report on the Activities of Latvian State Security Service (VDD), in which China-related content has no factual basis and contains misrepresentations worthless to refute. It is a typical act of turning normal people-to-people exchanges and trade activities between China and Latvia into security and ideological issues and building “small yards with high fences” in the name of “de-risking”, which goes against the historical trend of globalization and undermines common progress and prosperity of the world.

Friendly cooperation between China and Latvia serves common interests of both sides. We hope the Latvian side to work in the same direction with the Chinese side to promote bilateral practical cooperation and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, on the basis of mutual respect and seeking common ground while shelving differences. We urge certain parties in Latvia to stop distorting facts and smearing China and to make more conducive efforts to maintain healthy and stable development of China-Latvia relations for the benefits of the two countries and their peoples.
