The Symposium on Tibet Today was Held in Riga

The Chinese Delegation for Tibetan Cultural Exchange attended the symposium on Tibet Today held jointly by the Chinese Embassy in Latvia and University of Latvia on 21 September, 2016. Pro. Indriķis Muižnieks , Rector of University of Latvia, Mr.Ojars Eriks Kalnins, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of Saeima of Latvia, Mr.Sergejs Potapkins Chairman of Latvia-China Friendship Group of Latvia's Saeima and over 50 guests from political, academic and press circles of Latvia also participated in the symposium. During the symposium, the Chinese delegation introduced the real situation of Tibet and exchanged views with all the participants in an in-depth and frank way. H.E. Ambassador Mr. Huang Yong addressed the audience.

Mr. Jinmeiwangcuo, Director-General of the Information Office of the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region of China briefed the audience on ethnic policies in Tibet , the development of Tibet and all the efforts the Chinese Government had made to promote the economy, culture and unity of Tibet. According to the questions raised by members of parliament, the delegation clarified the measures which the Chinese Government had taken to protect the culture, religion and language of Tibet with detailed and accurate information, exposed that Dalai Lama seeks splitting the country under the cover of “Peace , Sympathy”, and “Take non-violent Road ”, and emphasized on the significance that the Chinese Central Government had maintained the stable development of Tibet.

Ambassador Huang Yong pointed out that “the good relationship between the two countries is up to the good relationship between the two people”, the aim of the symposium was for the people of Latvia to know more about China and to present a true Tibet for everyone. He believed that the symposium would play an active role in helping the people of Latvia to better know the ancient but thriving Tibet and promoting cultural exchanges between China and Lativa.

Mr. Ojars Eriks Kalnins, noted that Latvia respected China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and would concentrate on Latvian people’s understanding of China. Mr. Sergejs Potapkins said that the visit of the delegation was valuable since it provided a good opportunity for people of Latvia to listen to the voice of Tibet directly.

Invited by the Chinese Embassy in Latvia, Mr. Jinmeiwangcuo, Director-General of the Information Office of the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region of China headed the Chinese Delegation for Tibetan Cultural Exchange to visit Latvia from 20 to 22 September,2016. During the visit, the delegation has exchanged views with Saeima and University of Latvia in the areas of economic and social development, cultural heritage preservation, the use of Tibetan language and Tibetan Buddhism and taken interview of LETA and Independent Newspaper of Latvia.
