On September 8, 2011, Vice President Xi Jinping met with visiting Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov at the Great Hall of the People.

Calling the two countries friendly neighbors and strategic partners, Xi said with the joint efforts of both sides, Sino-Kazakh relations have witnessed sustained, sound and stable growth in recent years. Both sides have enhanced political mutual trust, with rapidly growing pragmatic cooperation, vigorous humanities exchanges and cemented traditional friendship. Both sides have also firmly supported each other on major issues concerning their respective core interests, and kept close coordination in regional and global affairs, which contributed to regional and world peace, stability and development, he added. China and Kazakhstan upgraded their ties to comprehensive strategic partnership during President Hu Jintao's visit to the country in June, which had injected a strong driving force for the development of bilateral relations, Xi said.

"To develop long-term, stable and dynamic Sino-Kazakh comprehensive strategic partnership with rich connotations meets the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples," he said. "China treasures its traditional friendship with Kazakhstan, and to enhance relations with the country is one of the priorities of China's diplomacy," Xi said. He vowed joint efforts to take the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties next year to further deepen political mutual trust, strengthen mutual support and enhance practical cooperation in energy and non-resource sectors. He also suggested both sides cement coordination in regional and international organizations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations so as to push for sustained, in-depth development of China-Kazakhstan comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of both peoples.

Calling China a great neighbor, Kazykhanov said the Kazakh government attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and regards China as a close friend and reliable partner. He praised the high level of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, citing enhanced political mutual trust and fruitful cooperation in all fields. Kazakhstan will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy and support China's principled position on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. The Kazakh side is ready to work with China to enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and expand cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, finance, transportation and high technology in a bid to further boost the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, Kazykhanov said.
