Xi Jinping Meets with Russian Security Council Secretary

On the afternoon of October 20, 2011, Vice President Xi Jinping met with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi said that this year witnesses the great development of China-Russia relations. In the context of the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, the heads of state of both countries declared their commitment to developing China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, injecting new impetus into bilateral relations. Both sides have steadily advanced their political, economic, energy, technological, military technology, local, cultural and international cooperation. Xi said China always prioritizes its relations with Russia in the country's foreign policy. He expressed China's willingness to make concerted efforts with Russia to push bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation to a new level.

Xi spoke highly of the positive contribution made by the China-Russia strategic security consultation mechanism to boosting bilateral strategic and political mutual trust and deepening strategic coordination. Citing the significant and profound changes of the international and regional situation, Xi said the two nations face opportunities as well as challenges in maintaining a strategically secure environment for their own development. China is ready to step up strategic coordination with Russia in international and regional affairs and keep closer communication in bilateral and multilateral mechanisms in a bid to better safeguard the common interests of the two nations and promote peace and stability in the world.

Patrushev spoke highly of the sound development of bilateral ties since the signing of the Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation ten years ago. Russia was highly satisfied with the current development of the bilateral ties, Patrushev said, proposing the two sides should strengthen strategic communication, expand mutual trust and cement coordination in multilateral organizations such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS to jointly meet challenges.

Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo was present at the meeting.

At the invitation of the Chinese side, Patrushev is in China to co-chair the sixth round of China-Russia strategic security consultations with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo.
